Social media marketing refers to the use of social networks, online portals, or any other online media for marketing, sales, community relations and customer service. Today Companies are focusing and investing a lot on social media and using social media for accomplishing a number of objectives like product launch , promotion, idea generation, Branding building and increasing sales etc. Social Media is the best tool in order to create awareness and buzz round new launches in the market. Even the NGOs, Schools and colleges are on social media and finding it a low investment and high return tool.
Broadly we can say social media is used for two distinct fields of works:
1) Promotion is about creating brand awareness or building up the brand.
2) Monitoring is about find out what the customer think about your brand , unknown insights which the people are having about the brand and proactively identifying the influencers in the space for the brand .
Qualification for the Job: Companies look for people who have postgraduate’s degree in marketing and communication with some work experience or either have some training in the field of advertising, online marketing, brand building etc. with good communication skills. Your background of marketing and communication will definitely help you in getting the right basics. Though, people from different background are also hired but they need to have good command over the language as well as an aptitude. For high level jobs one need to have vast work experience in this field.
Career Growth: There is a great demand for social media professional in the coming time as more and more companies are now focusing up on the social media marketing. The roles and designation varies from level to level. Designations like Audience acquisition, Social media Marketing Manager, Communities manager, Interactive Marketing Specialists etc are interesting designations cropping up these days. Recently HP-India offered a position where the role was just to administer their Twitter and Facebook Profiles; isn’t seems quite interesting and fascinating. As this field is so new and so there are number of opportunities yet to discover which are undiscovered yet. So, enter in this filed with correct skill set and rule the virtual world.
